Technical Specialist - Cytometry

 

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is  currently seeking a Technical specialist will be involved with setting up the instrumentation to analyse and sort a variety of samples for researches across the Garvan research precinct and beyond. There is also scope to be directly involved with the development of novel applications in the field of single cell genomics and microfluidics approaches to cellular analysis and separation. 

 Duties and responsibilities will include:

 

  • Maintain analytical flow cytometers and Cell Sorters
  • Perform quality control for the instruments in adherence to strict operating procedures
  • Maintain laboratory stock levels and make up basic reagents
  • Daily maintenance of laboratory records
  • Perform basic testing for instrument sterility
  • Provide technical and biological advice regarding flow cytometry 

The successful candidate will hold the following skills and experience:

 

  • B.Science (HONS) in any area of Biological Sciences 
  • Practical experience in the use of laboratory techniques such as, cell biology,animal models of disease molecular biology and technology
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service capability
  • Excellent computer and technical skills to accurately follow instructions
  • Ability to manage competing responsibilities
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Prior experience in Flow Cytometry and prior experience in next generation sequencing/ microfluidics would be highly advantageous
