Senior Hospital Scientist

A vacancy exists for a highly motivated Senior Hospital Scientist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful applicant will be expected to lead the clinical flow cytometry laboratory at SydPath, the pathology arm of St Vincent's Hospital. SydPath is a NATA/RCPA/TGA accredited laboratory offering a wide range of pathology services to the local campus, researchers and both general and specialist practices in the Sydney metropolitan area and country NSW. The flow cytometry laboratory performs approximately 700 analyses per month, including lymphocyte subset enumeration, analysis of peripheral blood, bone marrow and other tissues for haematological malignancy, CD34 counts, PNH assessment and memory B cell subsets. The laboratory receives samples from busy HIV, Immunology and Haematology services at St Vincent's Hospital as well as through other sites on campus, GP's and specialist services and through clinical trial contracts. Samples are analysed on two FACSCantoII Cytometers, for which an extensive range of 8-colour panels have been established.
The successful applicant will be expected to have extensive experience in flow cytometry instrumentation, including maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, and a high level of knowledge and expertise in flow cytometric diagnosis of a wide range of haematological malignancies, stem cell samples and lymphocyte subsets. They must also communicate effectively and lead a team to create a productive and efficient laboratory unit.
The position holder will be required to work Monday to Friday and rostered weekends on-call.
The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only.

Essential: Extensive first hand experience in flow cytometry instrumentation, including maintenance, trouble shooting, adjustment and repair
Essential: High level of knowledge and expertise in flow cytometric diagnosis of a wide range of haematological malignancies, stem cell samples and lymphocyte subsets
Essential: Proven ability to develop, assess and introduce new flow cytometric technology and services.
Essential: Effective knowledge and application of the Quality System including QA and QC procedures.
Essential: Ability to lead a team and create a productive and efficient laboratory unit that functions well within the larger organisation
Essential: Effective written and oral communication skills.
